Move my cPanel website with FTP and FileZilla

You can upload or backup your website by moving a copy of your files between your computer and your hosting account with File Transfer Protocol (FTP). There are many different clients you can use, but we recommend FileZilla.

Uploading and downloading your website or your entire hosting account can take awhile, depending on the size of your site and your internet connection.

In order to connect to FileZilla, you will need to know:

1. Download, install and launch FileZilla.
2. Complete the following fields:
3. Click Quickconnect
   
4. In the Remote Site area, open your website's root directory.
5. In the Local Site area, open a folder on your computer where you store your website files locally.
   

6. Upload your files	Download your files
   In the Local Site area, select all of your website's files and directories and then drag them into the Remote Site area.	In the Remote Site area, select all of your website's files and directories and then drag them into the Local Site area.

If you're uploading your website, once the files finish moving your site will be live. If you're downloading your website, once the files finish moving you will have a backup of your website saved on your computer.

Find your IP address

1. Log in to your ITEGY account.
2. Click Web Hosting.
3. Next to the cPanel account you want to use, click Manage.
4. Your IP address is displayed in the Account section.
5. Enter your IP address in the Host field to connect to FileZilla in step 2 above.

Find your FTP username

1. Log in to your ITEGY account.
2. In your My Products page, click the triangle next to Web Hosting to see the list of your hosting accounts, and then click Manage for the cPanel hosting account you want to use.
3. Click cPanel Admin.
4. In the Files section, click FTP Accounts.
5. Your primary cPanel user displays as the first account in the Special FTP Accounts section.
6. Each of your FTP account's login/user name displays in the Login column next to the user.
7. Enter your FTP username in the designated fields to connect to FileZilla in step 2 above.

Change your FTP password

1. Log in to your ITEGY account.
2. Click Web Hosting.
3. Next to the cPanel account you want to use, click Manage.
4. Under Settings section, click Change next to your password.
5. Enter a New cPanel Password, and then click Change Password.
6. Enter your FTP password in the designated fields to connect to FileZilla in step 2 above.
